The Boccafolle estate is located on a high plane that spans between the rivers Occido and Esaro and that is bordered on its North-West edge by the chain of rock mountains Pollino. The characteristics of the site guarantee an ideal microclimate for the cultivation of the vines: cool, dry and mildly ventilated. On the hills of their historic estate the Bruno family re-established the winery Boccafolle in the early 2000s. Since then, the mission of the company has been to restore vintage family vines whose origin is intimately linked to the wine region of Alta Calabria. The winery has focused on the high quality of its products, monitoring the entire production cycle: from the selection and planting of the vines through cultivation and harvest, until the production of the wine and its refinement in barrels and bottles.
This red wine derives from the vintage vines of Magliocco and Greco Nero of the Boccafolle estate in Mottafollone (CS) in the wine region of Alta Calabria. The grapes are vinified through a temperature-controlled process and the wine is refined in steel silos first and in bottles briefly after. The wine is ruby with shades of purple. It emanates scents of wild berries and prunes and appears balanced to the palate. Both taste and scent are amplified by pairings with dishes from the Mediterranean culinary tradition. The wine is certified as PDO (protected designation of origin) and it is currently marketed with the label “Boccafolle Magliocco”
This white wine derives from the vines “Vujnu”, “Durraca” and “Pecorello” blended during the vinification with “Trebbiano Toscano”. These vines are all exclusively cultivated in the vineyard of Boccafolle and allow the making of a wine of pale-yellow color, whose scents evoke the Riesling wines of the high valley of the river Reno. The wine is characterized by significant acidity, light color with slight green tones and recognizable scents of alyssum, fresh fruit, quince and pear. The wine is certified as PDO (protected designation of origin) and it is currently marketed with the label “Donna Elena”.
This fine rose` is created by blending the grape quality Magliocco with the Greco Nero during the vinification process. The result is a very delicate wine, refined to the palate and with elegant scents. The qualities of this wine and its sophisticated taste make it unique within the wine region of Alta Calabria. The wine is certified as PDO (protected designation of origin) and it is currently marketed with the label “Melara”.

After extensive research and a study of the historical record, the Boccafolle winery was able to select four traditional indigenous vines. These vintage vines are two red-grape known as “Greco Nero” and “Magliocco”, and two white-grape known as “Vujnu” and “Duraca”. While these vintage grapes are blended during the winemaking processes with other Italian vines, they are crucial in determining the structure and balance of the final product as well as its refined appeal to the palate.
